Democracy at Risk: A Nonpartisan Community Dialogue
Sunday, November 5, 4-6 PM
Illinois Valley High School Commons:
Is America’s Election System working as it should?
Are our First Amendment freedoms at risk from abuses of power?
Is political polarization tearing our democracy apart?
What are some positive solutions that we, as citizens, can propose to maintain our core democratic values?
Illinois Valley Indivisible invites you to “Democracy at Risk,” a nonpartisan community dialogue event on Sunday, November 5, from 4 to 6 P.M. at the Illinois Valley High School Commons.
Dedicated to finding commonality, the afternoon’s events will focus on education rather than politics. A panel of local leaders of varied political stripes will open a discussion about threats to our democratic system, with table discussions among attendees to follow.
The event is free and open to all concerned citizens, and will include music and light refreshments. Participants are encouraged to bring finger foods to share. We hope you will join in the discussion of these important issues and work with us to find common ground.
To all Concerned Citizens: Will you join us in a National Movement to pressure Trump to resign? We ask that you write letters, sign petitions, and send in post cards that motivate Trump to resign from the Presidency. Of course he might be removed too by the impeachment process or by the 25th amendment regarding unfitness and mental instability. Here are a few examples of some letters to the Editors:
President Trump Must Go
“Out of many, we are one.”
Stated at the beginning of the Democratic Party Platform, this is our core belief. This is why we fight an economy that equates success with the profits of just one percent of our population. This is why we want everyone to have access to health care and everyone to have a vote that counts. This is why we abhor discrimination and see the diversity of our population (all-other than Native Americans-once immigrants) as something that enriches us, not something to fear. This is why we strive towards respect and diplomacy and see violent action as our last resort. It’s why we want everyone to manifest their skills and talents, whether they come from advanced education, the arts, the trades, or in the family. It’s why we cherish being good stewards of this planet we all call home. It’s why we stand up for people and symbols that promote these values and condemn those that attack it.
And, this is why we are convinced that President Trump must resign.

Trump Must Resign
Gary Eby, Vice Chair of Josephine County Democrats.
“The only thing necessary for evil to triumph is that good people do nothing.” (Rev. Charles F. Aked)
We know that Donald Trump has lied to the American people countless times. We know he obstructs justice. We know he endorses police brutality, hatred of the press, and prejudice towards our beloved minorities. He has failed to condemn hate groups and the alarming rise in hate crimes throughout America and the world. He continues to abuse our basis human rights of equality, fairness, economic opportunity for all, healthcare, and a healthy environment safe from climate change, pollution, and exploitation of our sacred public lands. We The People, take a stand against tyranny and ask for his resignation as the President of this United States of America. Time for America to heal, so we can return once again to our glorious heritage of being “the land of the free and the home of the brave.”

Please send in your letters of support for HB 2927 today or by Wednesday. For the first time ever, a public hearing will be held on The National Popular Vote on 6-22 in the Senate Rules Committee. Here is my letter. Do what your heart guides you to do. Together, we can make a huge difference in our Democracy today!
Dear Patriots: Are you ready to do something historic and great for our county? Now is the time to move forward on HB 2927 – the National Popular Vote. We can not afford to back-slide with SB 825.
Please open your heart and mind. How is it fair to Democracy that only 500 people elect the President of the United States? It is right, fair, just, and proper that the will of the American people determine our next President. Plus more than 25 counties have sent in resolutions of support for this bill. And this bill has been gaining support since it was first introduced in 2007.
I am a author, musician, and retired social worker. I am also a veteran. I worked at the VA for more than 20 years helping our nation’s heroes have a better life. Now, I am asking all who believe in a kinder, healthier, and more compassionate America to do the right thing today.
Let the will of the People determine our next President.
Concerned Citizens: On 6-3, there are many ways to support the March for Truth. More than 50 cities nationwide are asking for the answers: What is Trump hiding? Has he broken the law? Is he covering up illegal connections to the Russians? We demand a special prosecutor now! Please support this People Power Movement in mind, spirit, or by your presence. We have organized a demonstration at the Cave Junction, County Building (right in front of HWY 199), June the 3rd from 2 to 4 PM. It will be peaceful. But bring your signs. We are also having a sign-making party on Monday, 5-29 at the Cedar Brook Estates Club House from 5 to 6 PM, 497 LaurelRd, CaveJunction. Please RSVP me @ qlcoach2@yahoo.com if you are going to participate. Otherwise, click this link for more info on the National March for Truth: https://www.marchfortruth.info/ And keep this mind:
“The events of the past week have rocked Washington DC and shaken the confidence of the nation. The President’s abrupt decision to fire FBI Director James Comey because of the Russia investigation now looks like blatant interference. Just this morning Donald Trump threatened Comey on Twitter, and threatened to cancel White House briefings. It is clear: the coming days and weeks will test our institutions, and our Constitution. It is crucial that we come together and demand that trust is restored, and that this investigation is pursued seriously and impartially. Join us on June 3rd as we #MarchForTruth!”
Last but not least: *Note: By choosing to attend this event, you are acknowledging the risks involved, and you are committing to participate nonviolently and in accordance with the law, and to work to de-escalate confrontations with opposing persons or others. You agree (i) not to engage in any act of violence or violation of any applicable law and (ii) to obey the orders of authorized event marshals and law enforcement authorities.
As the chair of the Resist Committee for the Josephine County Democrats, I had the honor and privilege to make this proposal to several of our local political action groups.
“President Trump is seeking to recruit and where that fails, compel local law enforcement officials to help his administration pursue its mass deportation agenda.”
“In response, ACLU is launching an ambitious campaign called Freedom Cities. Immigration will be the first battle they wage, but many others are coming.”
“ACLU is trying to roll back the Trump administration’s worst abuses by enlisting local grassroots activists like us.” They will take the fight to the courts; we can take the fight to city hall.
The plan is very simple. Meet with local law enforcement, city, or county or public officials. Ask them to endorse the following Nine “Model” state and law enforcement policies and rules:
#1. The Judicial Warrant Rule.
#2. No Facilitation Rule.
#3. Clear Identification Rule.
#4. Don’t ask Rule.
#5. Privacy Protection Rule.
#6. Defined Access/Interview Rule.
#7. Discriminatory Surveillance Prohibition Rule.
#8. Redress Rule.
#9. Fair and Impartial Policing Rule.
In other words, we ask local public official to adopt these rules of the Freedom Cities. If they refuse, we send a form to the ACLU reporting their refusal. And we proceed with a variety of tactics. to pressure local officials to comply.
