| Congratulations Mayor Bristol! |
Congratulations to Mayor Bristol for successfully fighting back the lies, the intimidation, and vitriol from the ultra-right wingers of our local Republican Party. She stood her ground with integrity, openness, and truth. She openly talked with Grants Pass citizens in their homes, in council meetings, and in the forums. Centrist voices spoke volumes during this recall. A huge waste of taxpayer’s money! Now, let's work together on a workable plan for the homeless. And perhaps the petitioners should be charged the $30,000 this sham recall cost the City of Grants Pass. |

Town Hall on New Fire District(s) |
Do you live in the "unprotected" area of Josephine County? If so, this should interest you.
If you live in Grants Pass, the Illinois Valley, Applegate, Williams, or Wolf Creek -- you are in a Fire District. and pay taxes to cover fire protection for your home, outbuildings, etc. Included in your tax dollars is the fire department dealing with auto accidents, fall pickups, water rescues, and other hazards.
If you don't live in those areas, you probably contract with Rural Metro for the same protection. (If not, you are leaching off the people that do.) A few years ago, a proposed fire district (lower tax rate than the Rural Metro fee) was on the ballot. John West and Herman Baertschiger actively lobbied against it. It didn't pass. John West even paid for full-page newspaper ads against it. Now that County Fire, another private fire service, has gone out of business, these two Commissioners are worried that Rural Metro has a "monopoly". They are now considering establishing one or more fire districts.
The Commissioners are holding "Town Halls" to hear what the public says. The first is this Thursday the 21st, 7PM at North Valley High School. Attend. Speak your piece.
If you want to know more about Fire Districts ahead of this meeting and what they offer, email: news@josephinedemocrats.org. |

| Adopt a Highway Road Cleanup |
DATE: 09/23/2023 Time: 9AM- Noon
Location: Hwy 199 & Hubbard Lane |
Please come and help keep Josephine County beautiful! The Josephine County Democrats do a road clean-up every three months to help keep our highways uncluttered and attractive. We have adopted a section of highway that begins near Hubbard Lane on Hwy 199. Please bring sturdy footwear, water, gloves, and perhaps a hat. We need at least 8-10 volunteers to help out. Bags, litter-grabbers, and safety vests will be provided for you. The clean-up usually takes about 2 hours.
From Grants Pass, drive west on Hwy 199 to Hubbard Lane (the last light on 199, near the college). Make a left at the light, then take the first right and park along the road. Participants need to be at least 16 years old. Please bring a mask in case we need to share vehicles. Thank you!
