Democrats Support Public Safety |
Ballots are out. Time to vote and be counted!
Josephine County Democrats voted to support public safety in Grants Pass and Josephine County.
This includes Measure 17-114, a five-year levy renewal for Grants Pass, and Measure 17-115, calling for the formation of a Law Enforcement District for all areas outside of Grants Pass. You will only see one of these on your ballot depending on where you live.
Law enforcement financing is a pay me now or pay me later kind of issue. Pay the 99 cents per assessed $1000 (assessed is never as high as a real estate appraisal-- check your last tax bill -- they were just sent out) or pay for: |
- higher insurance premiums,
- high-cost security systems,
-
private security when you're gone,
- higher incidents of theft and lawlessness,
- the lack of economic growth in the area,
- the loss of value in your property because few people will buy in a lawless area.

The community could also pay in the loss of life as well as people without law enforcement get twitchy and could possibly shoot someone just trying to turn around in their driveway. We as a county may also pay with a mass exodus of our sheriff's department staff because people need job stability and there's no shortage of jobs for officers and dispatchers.
Democratic Party PCPs don’t give their support lightly. Party voting takes place after the Measures have been thoroughly explained, research is done and published in our newsletter and speakers are invited to talk about the issues. Support means we have looked at the pros and cons and decided the pros win. This isn’t the same as an endorsement, which means we would actively campaign and spend money to promote the measures. There are already non-partisan committees doing this.

We will be gathering at Two Rivers Vineyard on Riverbanks Rd for some wine, food, music, good conversation and the beautiful outdoors in the valley between the Applegate and Rogue Rivers. Wine prices vary by the year/type. Sara always has some food available via a food truck. There will be live music by Rachael Sandeen from 2-4pm.
We will gather starting at 2. Look for the group with a donkey toy nearby. |

There are numerous openings, including "at large" positions with Mining, Fair Board, 4H Extension Budget, Forestry, Housing & Community Development, and Airport. Commissioners typically say they appoint Republicans because they apply. Let's flood their offices with applications!

In Need of Active Volunteers

The good news: Colette Storms (our Chair) and Michael Storms (our Treasurer) will soon become grandparents. They want to help and spend as much time as possible with their grandchild. Catch is they live in another state. The bad news, probably in December, we will be electing a new Chair and a new Treasurer to complete Colette and Michael's terms. There is someone who has thrown their hat into the ring for Treasurer. But Chair remains open at this time. Interested?
Also, we need volunteers to help with campaigns, newsletter, and expanding our active membership. All of these are personal growth opportunities with support from current members. Perhaps you know of someone. Bring them to the next meeting (Tuesday). See what we have to offer. |
