What the Hell?
From the minute I wake up in the morning until I go to bed at night I am besieged by anger and hate from the right side of the political sphere. It comes via my cell phone, X and Facebook, texts and emails, the cable TV pundits, and even from my family, neighbors, and co-workers. The vitriol never stops. Truthfully, it has me all ginned up, like most of the country; consumed with outrage at one group or another. And the reason for the high temperature is Donald Trump and the MAGA extremists.
The Last Thing America Needs
Donald J. Trump, the last thing America needs in public office, has seen his poll numbers skyrocket among Republicans, as his criminal indictments mount. Trump, the forever grifter, is making millions selling his mugshot on T-shirts. Even 10 years ago, such activity would have been an insurmountable scandal; but apparently not today.
Run, Donnie, Run
Of course, running for office gives Trump a huge platform from which he can continue to spew his hate and venom, while offering him a chance to make all the criminal charges go away, if he somehow manages to win another term. The very fact that this indicted felon, liar, and thief, is allowed to even run for president again is outrageous. Whether he wins or loses, his rhetoric has cast a dark and perilous cloud over all future U.S. elections, at least until his death.
The Grand Old Party of Abraham Lincoln has collapsed. What we now have in its place is total acceptance of the unacceptable. Gun packing white supremacists, torch carrying Neo-Nazi's, ochre-colored demagogues, vitriolic public officials, in small towns and large, screaming hate at the top of their lungs. There’s no need to shout, but everyone on the orange side can’t stop shouting their hate. They hate the LGBTQ+ community, they hate women, they hate books, they hate immigrants, they hate education, they hate teachers, they hate the poor and the homeless, they hate our multi-racial, multi-religious democracy, and more than almost anything, they hate free and fair elections.
As long as Trump can draw votes, he will be a disruptive force in our political ethos. According to the man himself, he intends to, if re-elected, suspend the U.S. Constitution, eliminate the civil service system, end U.S. participation in NATO, institutionalize judges and prosecutors, execute generals, and arrest political opponents. Basically, the man and his allies are planning to disassemble government as we know it. Trump and a whole lot of rich donors will stop at nothing to further their ends. And those ends have no relationship to the needs of the American people or the protection of our democracy.
Some say Joe is too old. I say, bullshit. Donald Trump may be three years younger than Biden but he’s showing symptoms of serious mental decline. Trump slurs his words and obviously has problems with basic language. He strings paragraphs together where not a single sentence is completed. He demonstrates balance problems and leans forward in a peculiar fashion, a symptom of a neurological disorder affecting the frontal cortex of the brain. We’ve been told by Trump advisors that he has the attention span of a fruit fly and cannot be told anything that goes against his preconceived ideas without sending him into a rage. His crazy ass tweets sent at all hours of the night show an inability to sleep, a definite warning sign of dementia. Most worrisome to me is his increasing and dangerous paranoia. How will such paranoia play out on the world stage if he has the nuclear codes? I know I don’t want to find out.
Vote For Hope Not Hate
I'm asking everybody to stop promoting hate and ‘turn on’ to the promise of hope. Not blind, foolish hope, but rather hope created by government support for things that matter to Americans, abortion, healthcare, disaster relief, Social Security, Medicare, a vibrant public education system, reasonable gun control, a strong military, affordable housing, and a robust and energetic democracy. To support hope, not hate, we must vote for it. Democrats are the ones that stand for a brighter future, not the return to a dark past. Democrats offer a positive message, not negative one. Quite simply the Democrats prove over and over that they are a party that wants the best for the most, not the most for the few. Vote Blue. Vote Biden-Harris, 2024. Vote Blue up and down the ballot. Let’s sweep out hate and usher in hope.
