Now we can hand wring over the number of Non-Affiliated who didn't vote... but look at the number of Democrats... us ... who didn't vote. (FYI, the percentage of Republicans who voted isn't better than the Democrats) The largest gap between the candidate Democrats supported and the winner in ALL the school board races was 2108. That means if Democrats could have increased their turnout by that number, the winners could have been very different.
2108... Sounds like a lot. BUT that is increasing our turnout from 38.6% to 54%. Really, isn't a little more than half -- doable?
There are enough Democrats in the county to shift the scale and elect more quality leaders. Educated, experienced quality leader to put us on the path to a quality county and an increased quality of life.
The current environment in the county and actions by county leaders offers an opportunity to develop relationships with moderate individuals who are more motived to elect quality leadership than party affiliation. First and foremost, it is important to increase awareness of what is happening and know the facts. The next critical element is to develop relationships with people who feel the county can go in a better direction if there was better leadership.
How can this happen? It will happen when more people pay attention to what is happening. It will happen when people talk to other like-minded people and share information. It will happen when concerned citizens educate themselves on issues and vote.
How is this accomplished? It is accomplished when we make a concentrated effort to share our knowledge with like-minded people through outreach and networking. Voting is very important and easy to do in Oregon. Democrats win elections when they turn out and vote!
There are so many ways to be engaged. Attend a meeting and bring a friend. Enjoy one of our social events and get to know other people who share your beliefs. Help Josephine County Democrats reach more people by volunteering, donating and being involved.
“A motivated Democrat, talking to Neighbors is something a campaign contribution cannot buy.”
A call to action! Who do you know that you can share the Josephine County Newsletter with each time it comes out and encourage them to subscribe and share it with other like-minded people? This simple action could be a huge factor in expanding our outreach into the community. If everyone who subscribes to the newsletter was able to encourage ONE new person to subscribe, that would double our subscription.
More importantly, you might just inspire another person to VOTE!
