When I was just a young girl growing up in the Mid-West, I learned to negotiate at the dining room table. As the fourth child of six, I also learned to collaborate. By working together we achieved more than satisfaction, we learned from each other and grew together. As your elected representative I will bring those skills with me.
I am a teacher and have been teaching for more than 20 years. My experience includes teaching in several communities with varied levels of students from kindergarten through college. I know firsthand the power that education has to change one’s life. I believe that everyone should have access to an affordable education and will work towards finding solutions for us all. I teach at the local community college and will fight for funding for our students and our community. My education includes a BA in Mathematics and an MS in Applied Mathematics.
My prior community work includes serving as campaign manager during the 2013-2014 campaign to protect local farmers by banning the growth of genetically engineered crops. I had the opportunity to work directly with many local farmers and businesses. Learning about and understanding the challenges farmers and businesses face daily fuels my commitment to make a difference. I have continued to volunteer with Oregonians for Safe Farms and Families in Josephine County and Our Family Farms in Jackson County. Both groups have been to Salem several times lobbying on behalf of farmers in the region and throughout Oregon. I will continue to advocate for the small family farmer when elected.
In this time of polarity in our nation, we need our elected representatives to be willing to talk across the aisle. We need collaborators and negotiators who are willing to represent the will of the people and work for community improvement.
The Rogue Valley and surrounding area is one of the most beautiful regions in the United States; many are drawn here for the climate, astounding beauty and wide-range of activities. I feel blessed to work in a professional field of my choice, to live in such an abundant agricultural area and to be surrounded by so many people whom I love and respect.
