Special District Election Fundraiser

If you’ve ever, ever, thought about making a donation to the Josephine County Democrats. Now is the time. We will be hosting a fundraiser on April 7th at the Unitarian Universalists in GP from 6-9 pm.

Special Guest Peter DeFazio will be joining us online.  He is issuing a Matching Grant Challenge!! Your opportunity to have your donation doubled! This includes ticket and auction proceeds.

KC HansonAlso joining us in-person is Chair of the Democratic Party of Oregon, KC Hanson. She will be our auctioneer for Banned Books, election related items, and other special donated articles.

We’ll be serving pizza, salad, and beverages such as wine, beer, and soft drinks.

Tickets are $25 per person if purchased before March 26th, after that the price increases to $35 per person.

Hey if you can’t make it – send us some $ anyway — and know your contribution will be doubled!!

The May Special Election is imminent and there is plenty of work ahead. All money raised will be used to support 2023 campaign activities to elect moderate to progressive candidates. Outreach activities will include non-affiliated voters and young voters.

In 1964, Attorney General Robert F. Kennedy said, “There are people in every time and every land who want to stop history in its tracks. They fear the future, mistrust the present, and invoke the security of a comfortable past which, in fact, never existed.”

Transgender Day of Visibility

“Celebrate Trans Day of Visibility and our local gender-variant and trans* community with an open mic, storytelling and performances on March 31 in Grants Pass!

We are looking for folks who want to share music/stories/performances around the theme of TRANS JOY. Trans* community especially welcome! If you would like to share your story or perform, you can sign up at the event.

*We are using trans* as shorthand–the purpose of this event is to celebrate and lift up gender-diverse, transgender, gender-variant, genderqueer, Two Spirit, and nonbinary, folks and the breadth of our gender-expansive community in the Rogue Valley and surrounding area.

Hosted by the LGBTQ+ Listening Project, House Del Mar and Stonewall, with help from our friends from the Chrysalis Trans Storytelling Circles and I Affirm Coalition!

First Friday at Two Rivers

County Commissioner Meetings

With the exception of holidays and other planned recesses, the Board of Commissioners convenes the first, third and fourth Wednesdays for Weekly Business Sessions at 9 a.m. and the second Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.

Penn Butte and Late Munger’s Timber Sale Protest

Join Williams Community Forest Project (WCFP) for a very important protest to let the BLM know that these two timber sales are to be cancelled. 

THE IMPACTS:

The loss of Mature and Old Growth timber, opening the canopy and heating the soil will decrease our water supply for irrigation for our farms, domestic wells, and habitat for wildlife. We are in a drought and the foreseeable future sees no change.

WHY PROTEST?

The BLM is ignoring the efforts to conserve Mature and Old Growth Forests that are now officially protected under President Biden’s Executive Order effective as of Earth Day April 22nd, 2022. The executive order was given due to our elevated green house gasses leading to excessive weather conditions and wildfires. Our Mature & Old Growth trees are the most effective way to help climate changes.

WHEN and WHERE: February 27th at 11am – 1pm at the Medford BLM Office at 3040 Biddle Rd.

NOTE: If you need a ride or want a protest sign – Gather at the Williams Grange at 9:30 am.

The Penn Butte timber sale is planned for March 23rd. The Penn Butte timber to be sold on March 23rd is 6,595,000 board feet, (1319 log trucks) on 491 acres in Marble Gulch and Upper Powell Creek in the Williams Watershed, two of Williams most pristine areas for recreation and water supply.

The Late Mungers timber sale is planned for July 27th. The Late Mungers timber sale is 312 acres and 2,500,000 board feet.

Penn Butte and Late Mungers forests are Late Successional Reserves that the BLM designated for endangered species . BLM now has decided without environmental assessment (NEPA) that these forests can be logged to improve forest conditions. The BLM’s plan to cut trees up to 36 inches in diameter and creating clear cuts to improve forest health is harmful and has to be stopped.

Please come to the protest, write letters to the editor and send BLM a message that you value our forests and they need to be conserved. Refer to WCFP’s web site at williamscommunityforestproject.org for more information.
