Election Protection Volunteers Needed!

The Josephine County Democratic Party in conjunction with the Democratic Party of Oregon carries out election protection activities during general elections. This is a two-tiered election monitoring activity that includes observing the ballot opening and counting process at the county elections office, and observing the actual ballot drop box locations around the county.

This year observing the ballot processing will be easy because the observation of the ballot processing at the elections office will be done solely virtually. The county clerk will provide access to the process through cameras located throughout the office, so volunteers will be able to monitor the ballot processing from their own homes.

The Democratic Party of Oregon has provided us with a training video about this program. If you would like to volunteer for this important program or would like more information about it, please contact Brian at Election-protection@josephine democrats .org.

Please help secure our elections! We have a lot of shifts to fill for both observing the ballot processing and monitoring the drop boxes. Thank you!

I participated in ballot observation during the presidential election at the court house and would do it again.

I was official democratic election monitor years ago, when Georgette was Clerk. All early ballots ended up being held for up to roughly weeks before Election Day, in a very non secure room, adjacent to Georgette’s office. It would have been fairly easy for someone-especially the clerk-to enter this room after hours, and replace real ballots with some of the many blank ballots held by the Clerk. Not saying this will happen, but some people can’t resist temptation. Is it true, as an assistant to the Clerk told me yesterday afternoon, that there will be a live cam in the room with all those early ballots, to allow “anyone” to keep an eye on them? This was not the case during Georgeann’s term in office.
