The Hope Mountain Barter Faire, held at Lake Selmac County Park, off McMullen Creek Road in the Illinois Valley, is a 3-day celebration of culture and creative energies. Over thirty bands and musical artists will perform over the course of the three days. The Faire features unique entertainment, trading, live music, and great food.
We of the Illinois Valley Democrats will be hosting a booth there on Saturday, June 16 and Sunday, June 17. The theme of our booth will be Protect Your Mother Earth, and we will be encouraging attendees, many of them non-voters in their 20’s and 30’s to VOTE. (We will also be helping people to register to vote.)
We REALLY could use some help in staffing the booth, as we are a very small group.
If interested in helping out, call Nicole at (541) 660-2419. It will be fun!!!

An informed citizenry is the lifeblood of democracy. But how do we figure out what information is truthful and which news sources are reliable?
Join us as an outstanding group of media representatives and educators from throughout Southern Oregon address these questions and more:
- How do news outlets verify their stories?
- How can we tell the difference between real news and fiction?
- Where does news leave off and propaganda begin?
- A free press: why is it important for safeguarding democratic institutions?
- When, where, and how has freedom of the press been attached or curtailed? What happened?
Following the panel, enjoy refreshments and smaller discussions where you can exchange thoughts and ideas with fellow community members.
- Geoffrey Riley, JPR News Director/Host of The Jefferson Exchange
- Scott Stoddard, Editor, Grants Pass Daily Courier
- Niki Theis-Coulter, RCC History Professor
- Mike Zacchino, Digital Content Manager, KDRV TV; Digital Content Producer, The Oregonian newspaper

At our December meeting, we put together a list of priorities for 2018 and from that drafted a timeline to accomplish our goals. This is just a working document so that we can hammer this out quickly at our next meeting and get on to business.
There was energy about having a local event or protest as well as a lot of environmental passion in the room, so I thought about shooting for an environmental event around Earth Day, April 22. That gives us some time plus beats the primary after which our main energy should be election focused. What do you all think?
Join us on Saturday January 13 at 10:00 AM at the Illinois Valley Coalition.
