Josephine County Democrats are gearing up for the 2018 election cycle and could use your help.
Join us Tuesday, September 12 for a planning session during our regular monthly meeting at 129 NW “E” Street in Grants Pass. Put your skills in organizing, graphics, public relations, fund-raising and technology to work helping us work on local, state and national issues affecting our area.
Democrats are concerned about the direction our nation is taking under the Republican majority and are working to resist cuts in healthcare, environmental protection, education, and the erosion of our basic rights.
Our meeting starts socially at 6:30 p.m. and officially at 7.
The hurricane in Texas and Louisiana has created an immense need and call for donations from around the world to help. Closer to home, the Chetco Bar fire, which has not attracted much national attention, continues to threaten homes and livelihoods closer to home.
Several fires in Southern Oregon and Northwest California have displaced people and caused a hit to the economy of Brookings and Gold Beach. The Chetco Bar is no longer a threat to the city of Brookings, but it, and fires near Gasquet and Happy Camp are contributing to unhealthy air quality all over the region, causing a loss in tourist business on the coast. The Food Bank in Brookings reports it has plenty of food, but the Tolowa dee-ne Nation, which owns the Ship Ashore Resort, says money and volunteers are needed there as they are housing about 50 victims displaced by the Chetco Bar fire.
Call 707-487-3181 or go to:
to help the Ship Ashore Resort efforts.
The Humboldt Area Foundation at:
is also taking donations for fire victims.
Donations to help shelters dealing with displaced pets and livestock can go here:

Twin Heroes Production Honors Ashland hero, Taliesin Myrddin Namkai-Meche
On the 8th of September, Twin Heroes will honor the life and death of our fallen Ashland hero, Taliesin Myrddin Namkai-Meche. On the first day of Ramadan, Taliesin was killed by knife while trying to protect two teen girls — one a Muslim wearing a hijab — from a man shouting racist epithets on a train up in Portland. He died along side Ricky John Best, a veteran of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Despite being from either side of of our country’s political poles, these two heroes came together in a selfless moment. Taliesin in his final moments voiced love for all on the train including his killer. More information.
