Grave Creek Watershed Protected from Logging
From KS Wild:
The Lower Graves Timber Grab by the Grants Pass Resource Area of the Medford BLM was effectively halted by an Oregon Federal District Judge yesterday. The 571-acre timber sale targeted mature and old-growth forests for partial cutting and “regeneration” logging, in which old growth forest canopy and wildlife habitat would be removed, dense young timber plantations established, and fire hazard increased. This court order protects the Grave Creek watershed from logging proposed under this illegal timber grab.
In the lawsuit filed by conservation allies KS Wild, Cascadia Wildlands, and Oregon Wild, the judge agreed that public lands managers cannot simply ignore the need to reduce instead of increase fire hazards.
Children’s Health Plan still not funded
Perhaps a reminder to call Rep. Walden s office: 541-776-4646. Ask him to re-fund the Children s Health Plan (CHiP). 8.9 million children will be kicked off health care unless it is continued. It has helped lots of children get health care for the past several years. Funding ended Sept. 30. It needs to be funded.
And while you are on the phone with him/his office — Tell him to assure that insurance subsidies for the ACA are paid.
Let’s see, that’s 8.9 million children plus a minimum 2.5 million ACA tax credit recipients who will not be able to afford health care. Can our Congress do something for middle to low income folks??

Unity not Division
Letter to the Editor, published in the Mail Tribune (9/27/17). Courier did not print.
There is no equivalence between hate groups and those who oppose them. I, along with other Americans condemn the recent racist and violent events in Charlottesville. These hateful actions contradict our democratic values of equality and Rights for All.
We are stronger because of our diversity of race, culture and ideas.
Locally, Democrats and progressives are working together to improve our community in the areas of education, health care, jobs and the environment. We ask others to work with us and contribute their ideas and energy.
Congressman Walden gave a generic response when he condemned the hateful groups at Charlottesville. But this is not enough. His actions over the past months have caused us harm and division. He voted for special interests when he voted to defund health care and is not representing citizens well in Oregon’s second district.
Southern Oregon Democrats ask you to join with them in working on local, state and national issues that impact our daily lives. Join us at our next meeting.

Priorities
Assault rifles are a right. Healthcare is not.
This man’s right to own multiple automatic weapons outweighs others’ right to public safety. While victims will be treated for medical issues, they are responsible for the cost even if it may bankrupt them/their family.
Issues are up for vote in the house this week among others
1. HR 3668. Deregulating gun silencers.
2. HR 38. Concealed carry reciprocity. Limits states rights to determine reasonable gun safety legislation.
3. HR 36. Restricts abortion/ women’s reproductive rights
Clearly, Congress has its priorities.
So angry!
The day after proposing a $2 TRILLION tax cut for the rich Trump is attacking people DYING OF THIRST.
The day after proposing a tax cut that would give his family a BILLION DOLLAR TAX CUT, Trump is attacking a woman who LOST HER HOME IN A HURRICANE.
28 Puerto Rican army reservists reported for duty only to end up waiting in their base, cut off from the outside world, for a week without orders while residents cried for help.
At The Atlantic, Annie Lowrey reports that as Republicans continue their push to convert safety net programs into block grants based on the myth that state governments are more responsive to their constituents, “there is little evidence that the states are more efficient administrators than Washington is, and some evidence that they might be less so.”

Don’t sign Referendum 301
Far-right extremists are attempting to get enough signatures for a ballot measure, that if passed, would roll back Oregon healthcare gains. Please refuse to sign their petitions. It might not hurt to tell them they are going against Oregon values as well. Read about it here: http://ouroregon.org/far-right-timber-baron-bankrolling-healthcare-rollbacks/
